PLAYERS TO WATCH Top performers from unranked teams

Tommy Blake, DE
TCU

A tailback in high school, the 6' 3", 252-pound senior is now a menace on D. "[Blake] was a big, speedy kid who spent his time in high school avoiding tacklers, so we thought he'd have the ability to make great moves as a pass rusher," says defensive coordinator Dick Bumpas.

Colt Brennan, QB
HAWAII

The freewheeling senior, whose practice helmet is adorned with a Bob Marley sticker, broke the NCAA single-season record for touchdown passes in '06, with 58. Now he's gunning for an undefeated season, 6,000 passing yards and the Heisman Trophy.

Damion Fletcher, RB
SOUTHERN MISS

Hurricane Katrina briefly displaced the Biloxi native to Florida, but he returned to finish high school and signed with the Golden Eagles. Good thing for Southern Miss: Fletch was the nation's most productive runner among true freshmen last year, with 1,388 yards.

Kory Lichtensteiger, C
BOWLING GREEN

He's the Big Daddy (300 pounds and married with a three-year-old son, Ayden) of the Falcons' line, having powered the MAC's top rushing offense last season. The senior has started 35 straight games after breaking into the lineup in 2004 at left guard.
