PUT UP YOUR DUKES

Two future Blue Devils faced each other on what will be their home floor next year, playing in the Duke-hosted Durham Hoophall Classic on Jan. 30. Forward Taylor King of No. 6 Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) put on the more impressive show, scoring 32 points, but guard Nolan Smith's No. 3 Oak Hill ( Mouth of Wilson, Va.) won the game 77--74. Smith (above right) had 14 points.

EXTRA MAYO

Also in Durham, O.J. Mayo had 19 points and six rebounds as his No. 2 Huntington (W.Va.) team beat No. 5 Artesia ( Lakewood, Calif.) 73--66. Mayo played after a judge stayed the senior guard's two-game suspension—for receiving a pair of technical fouls in a Jan. 26 game—until his appeal could be reviewed on Feb. 9. Even with Mayo, Huntington still lost its first game on Feb. 2, to unranked Scott County (Ky.) 72--68.

AIR GORDON

In front of a crowd that included Michael Jordan, North Central ( Indianapolis) senior guard Eric Gordon scored 43 points in an 88--47 win over No. 22--ranked Loyola Academy (Wilmette, Ill.). In the first half Gordon (left), an Indiana recruit, personally outscored the Loyola team 28--27. Jordan came to watch his sons Jeffrey, a senior guard, and Marcus, a sophmore guard, who play for Loyola and had a combined eight points.

RULE OF THREES

They did it. Huntington Beach ( Calif.) Marina, whose team motto is 3Diculous (SI, Jan. 22), set a national season record for three-pointers. The record-breaker was hit by Mike Kinoshita in a 105--101 win over Edison ( Calif.). "It was like a shot that won a game," says coach Roger Holmes. "The noise was deafening." Marina's total is 384 with two games plus playoffs remaining.
