Early standouts from the winter championship season
?Satellite (Satellite Beach, Fla.) won its third girls' state title this school year when its soccer team (left) defeated Palm Harbor University High 3--0 for the Class 5A championship. The Scorpions' other titles were in cross-country and swimming.
? Sunnyside ( Tucson) wrestlers won individual titles in seven of 14 weight classes while carrying the team to the state 5A, Division II championship. The seven titles are the most for an Arizona school in 54 years.
? Carmel ( Ind.) won its 21st consecutive state title in girls' swimming; the Carmel swimmers didn't actually take a single event, but five second-place finishes carried them to the points lead.
? H.D. Woodson took its fourth consecutive Washington, D.C., indoor track championship, led by senior Camron Thomas, who won the 1,000 meters, 1,600 meters, high jump and triple jump.
