Play Ball!
A packed house was on hand in St. Louis on Sunday night when the Cardinals'
Chris Carpenter threw the first pitch of the baseball season. The Cards
unfurled a flag commemorating their 10th World Series title before the game,
but the New York Mets exacted a measure of revenge for their NLCS loss last
October with a 6--1 victory.

Splashdown
Morgan Pressel took the traditional champion's jump with her caddie, Jon
Yarbrough—and, not so traditionally, with her grandmother Evelyn
Krickstein—after winning the LPGA Kraft Nabisco in Rancho Mirage, Calif.
Pressel, 18, birdied the final hole for a one-shot victory that made her the
youngest winner of an LPGA major.
Nose Job
In his final tune-up before the May 5 Kentucky Derby, Scat Daddy, with Edgar
Prado (3) aboard, would pass Stormello en route to a 1 1/4-length victory in
the Florida Derby last Saturday at Gulfstream Park. Scat Daddy won for the
fifth time in eight starts.
