Somdev Devvarman CHENNAI, INDIA > Tennis Devvarman, a junior at Virginia, defeated top-seeded John Isner of Georgia in a third-set tiebreaker to become the first Atlantic Coast Conference player to win the NCAA singles title. He had a 44--5 singles record this season and, with junior Treat Huey, reached the semifinals in the doubles tournament.

Jimmy, a senior at St. Pius X Catholic High who had 41 career goals and 29 assists, is Gatorade's state player of the year and an all-state midfielder. He was named All--South Region as a forward in his junior year and All-America as a club-team goalkeeper, the position he will play next year at South Carolina.

Tony, a junior at Milton High, is a three-time All--Susquehanna Valley shortstop and a career .505 hitter (.576 this year). As a starting forward he averaged 21.5 points last season (he has 1,675 for his career) and was the Class AAA player of the year.

Ashley Brasovan
PALM BEACH, FLA. > Track and Field
Ashley, a sophomore at Wellington High, defended her Florida Class 4A title in the 3,200 meters in a state-record time of 10:13.45, taking nearly 18 seconds off the previous mark. Earlier this year she won the Nike indoor two mile in 10:25.41, and she is a two-time state cross-country champion.

Jason Rust
GREENWOOD, DEL. > Baseball
Rust, a senior rightfielder at Wilmington College, hit for the home run cycle (solo, two-run, three-run and grand-slam homers) in a win over the University of the Sciences. A Division II All-America, he batted .360 and led the Central Athletic Collegiate Conference in homers (21) and RBIs (62).

Nicole Pecel
VENTURA, CALIF. > Water Polo
Pecel, a junior driver at California Lutheran, scored three goals and assisted on two others to lead the Regals to the Collegiate III National Tournament title in the program's fourth year. The two-time All-America tied for the team lead with 47 goals and had 38 steals, 26 assists and 21 drawn ejections.
