SIX YEARS after Gladiator won the Oscar for Best Picture, the film gets another honor: LeBron James has named his son Bryce Maximus—the middle name inspired by Russell Crowe's character in that movie, Maximus Decimus Meridius. This is James's second son with 20-year-old girlfriend Savannah Brinson (right); his first, LeBron Jr., is two years old. The newborn arrived the day LeBron's Cavs got the thumbs-down from the Spurs in Game 4 of the NBA Finals.... So far NFL commissioner Roger Goodell's tenure can be summed up as anticrime—but pro fashion. Last week the league approved requests from Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio and 49ers coach Mike Nolan to wear suits on the sidelines for all their home games in 2008. The two coaches also had waivers to wear suits for two home games last year.... TV's longest-running soap opera has picked up a blocker. Mark Schlereth, the ESPN analyst and former guard for 12 NFL seasons with the Redskins and the Broncos, debuted in a recurring role last week on Guiding Light, as detective Roc Hoover.
