Smith Center ( Kans.) opened the Class 2-1A playoffs on Oct. 30 by scoring a national high school record 72 first-quarter points in an 83--0 win over Plainville. Four days later the Redmen beat St. John 64--0 in the second round. They have outscored opponents 704--0 this year.

Rockhurst ( Kansas City) is the team to beat when the Missouri Class 6 playoffs begin this Friday. Led by junior quarterback Nathan Scheelhaase, who had a 64-yard touchdown pass and a 15-yard scoring run, the Hawklets beat defending state champ Blue Springs South 27--21 in a matchup of the class's last two unbeatens.
IRONCLAD VICTORY
In a meeting of 7--0 teams last Saturday, Don Bosco Prep (Ramsey, N.J.) shook off an 88-yard, first-play TD run by Bergen Catholic's Nick Gerst and won 27--7, the 31st straight regular-season win for the Ironmen. Junior quarterback Brett Knief threw for 157 yards and ran for 49.
