Fans hoping for another golden age in the middleweight division may have a while to wait. Promoter Bob Arum has said that Kelly Pavlik's first defense could come on June 7 at Madison Square Garden against former champ Flix Trinidad, 35, whose most recent outing was a loss to Roy Jones Jr. on Jan. 19. Another prospective—and more attractive—opponent is hard-punching John Duddy (above) of Ireland (or, as his no-nonsense ring moniker has it, Ireland's John Duddy). Duddy (23--0, 17 KOs) faces lightly regarded Walid Smichet of Tunisia this Saturday on the undercard of the Wladimir Klitschko--Sultan Ibragimov heavyweight bout in the Garden.
