Getting Their Phil

Among a mass of Masters fans, Phil Mickelson teed off on the 3rd hole in the second round last Friday at Augusta National. Mickelson capped his crowd-pleasing play on Sunday with a 69 to clinch a two-stroke victory (page 34) and his second green jacket, which was presented by last year's champion, Tiger Woods (inset).

Stick Save, and A Beauty

With a desperate swipe of his stick and exquisite timing, Flames defenseman Mark Giordano (46) reached from behind the Canucks' Richard Park and stopped a shot from crossing the goal line last Saturday in Vancouver. The puck had slipped behind goalie Miikka Kiprusoff (inset) and slid across the goalmouth.

Merryland!

While star center Crystal Langhorne (1) was in the middle of the Terrapins' celebration after their 78--75 overtime defeat of Duke in the NCAA finals on April 4 (page 24), the Blue Devils' Abby Waner was in anguish. With the final snip of the scissors in Boston, Maryland coach Brenda Frese (inset) netted a trophy.
