FRIDAY 7/14

Real Salt Lake vs. Revolution Clint Dempsey might be the only U.S. player not trying to forget his World Cup experience. The New England midfielder (above) scored the U.S.'s lone goal in its 2--1 elimination loss to Ghana, and he has continued his hot streak since returning to the Revs. He has three goals and New England is 3-1-0 since June 28. White Sox at Yankees It's a double whammy for the Yanks: They have to face one of baseball's hottest pitchers and be reminded that he used to be one of their own. Chicago ace Jose Contreras, whom the Bombers traded in 2004, hasn't lost since last August (he's won his last 17 decisions) and is 2--0 with a 0.60 ERA against New York in his career. Both teams are in second place in their divisions, but the White Sox lead the AL wild-card race. The Yankees are in danger of missing the playoffs for the first time since 1993. Check listings

SATURDAY 7/15

Shane Mosley vs. Fernando Vargas Mosley (42--4) is known for his lightning-quick hands, but when these junior middleweights met in February (below) he might have showed he can use his head too: Vargas says a first-round butt from Mosley caused Vargas's eye to swell grotesquely. The fight was stopped in the ninth, with Mosley declared the winner, even though Vargas trailed by just a point on two judges' cards and led on the third. Says Vargas (26--3) about their Vegas rematch, "We have unfinished business." HBO PPV 9 p.m.

SUNDAY 7/16

American Century Championship Eighty sports stars tee off in a 54-hole competition at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course near Lake Tahoe. The field will include two-time Super Bowl winner John Elway, former U.S. soccer standout Brandi Chastain and Hall of Fame speedskater Dan Jansen. NBC 12 p.m.

TUESDAY 7/18

In Stores: Code Breakers The ESPN movie about the 1951 cheating scandal that rocked Army's football team comes out on DVD, with over two hours of bonus features. Included are a documentary on the Army program and a look at the Cadets' rivalry with Navy.
