What was your welcome-to-the-big-leagues moment? My first road trip, in 2003. We went straight to the plane. I got this big comfortable leather chair. And the food was great. There were warm cookies.
Your most embarrassing moment? The first time I took batting practice before an interleague series [in '04]. I didn't hit a ball out of the cage. I was so anxious, I was way out in front of everything. The whole team was laughing.
Your favorite off-day activity? Relaxing. I'll lie by the pool, have a good dinner. I'm not into doing a bunch of stuff on a day off.
What is the one thing about being a ballplayer that the public doesn't really know? Starting pitchers don't just sit on their butts and eat sunflower seeds on the days we don't start. I work harder on the days I don't pitch. I lift, run, study video and throw.
If I weren't playing baseball, I'd be ... in the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
The B.C. native is set to pitch against the Rangers again on Sunday.
