Grin and
Claret
Just off the 18th
green with a two-stroke lead on Sunday, Tiger Woods (in red shirt and black
pants) finished with a par to win the British Open at Royal Liverpool Golf Club
in Hoylake, England (page 34). Woods took home the claret jug (inset) for the
second straight year, becoming the first repeat champion since Tom Watson in
1983.
Rock Bottom
During the 16th
stage of the Tour de France, on July 19, Floyd Landis (in yellow) had such a
poor ride through the Alps that he squandered a 10-second lead and fell 8:08 in
arrears. Just as stunning, however, was his recovery the following day, when he
climbed back to within 30 seconds of the leader. By last Saturday he had the
race all but won (page 52), and on Sunday he toasted his first Tour victory in
Paris (inset).
Early Birds
Last Friday, in
their first day of training camp in Bethlehem, Pa., the Eagles got back into
the blocking business, while quarterback Donovan McNabb (inset), who's coming
off surgery for a sports hernia, loosened up on the side (page 74).
