THURSDAY 8/3
Women's British
Open With all eyes on Annika Sorenstam as she attempts to tie Tiger Woods by
winning an 11th major championship, don't be surprised if Karrie Webb steals
the show. The Australian has won seven majors--including this year's Kraft
Nabisco Championship, which she celebrated with a plunge (above). Thursday and
Friday TNT 10 a.m., Saturday and Sunday ABC 1:30 p.m.
Basketball, Puerto
Rico vs. U.S. When Puerto Rico beat Team USA 92--73 in Athens in 2004, it was
the first Olympic loss for the U.S. in 16 years. The Puerto Ricans will try to
make it two in a row in this exhibition in Las Vegas--the first game the newly
imagined Dream Team will play under Coach K (page 56). ESPN 11 p.m.
SATURDAY 8/5
Chelsea vs. MLS
All-Stars The MLS All-Stars are 2--0 against international competition, with
wins over Mexican power Chivas in 2003 and England's Fulham last year. But
Chelsea will provide a much sterner test. Since Russian oil magnate Roman
Abramovich bought the club in 2003, he's spent $818 million to assemble a team
that has won the Premier League two years in a row. Abramovich's latest big
signing: $55 million Ukraine striker Andriy Shevchenko (left), who will make
his Blues debut in Chicago. ESPN 6:30 p.m.
SUNDAY 8/6
Hall of Fame Game:
Raiders vs. Eagles If Oakland QB Aaron Brooks has his way, this won't be Randy
Moss's last trip to Canton. Brooks was signed in the off-season with the hopes
that he can better exploit Moss; Oakland's deep threat (left) caught only eight
touchdowns last season. This is NBC's first NFL broadcast in seven years; Al
Michaels and John Madden will be in the booth. NBC 8 p.m.
MONDAY 8/7
Twins at Tigers
Detroit righthander Jeremy Bonderman (right) travels well. He's 7--1 on the
road this season with a 3.01 ERA, but just 4--4 with a 4.45 ERA at home.
Minnesota is hoping he continues to struggle at Comerica Park; the onrushing
Twins are 11/2 games out in the wild-card race. Check listings
