FORT SCOTT, KANS. > Softball

Heather, a senior righthander at Fort Scott High, helped the Tigers win the Class 4A title, the school's first championship in a girls' sport. She had 265 strikeouts in 1432/3 innings and a 0.25 ERA. She also had a team-high .455 batting average for the season.

TAMAYO, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC > Volleyball

Batista, a senior outside hitter--middle blocker at Brigham Young, took his club, Bameso, to the 2005 USA Open Volleyball Championship in Denver, leading the tournament in kills and digs. It was the club's second straight title, and he was named MVP both times.

Jennifer Schmitt

TUCSON > Handball

Schmitt, 36, a junior high school English teacher, beat her sister, Allison Roberts, to win the women's open singles title at the United States Handball Association National Four-Wall Championships. It was the first time in the 54-year-old nationals that siblings met in the open-singles final.
