Homecoming Warner Robins (Ga.) players welcomed Dalton Carriker after his shot to rightfield cleared the fence in the bottom of the eighth to defeat Tokyo 3-2 and win the Little League World Series on Sunday in South Williamsport, Pa. Tokyo shortstop Ryo Ogawa (inset) fell to one knee in despair as the U.S. champion defeated the International champion for the third straight year. Warner Robins became the third Georgia team to win the title, joining East Marietta in 1983 and Columbus in 2006, and Carriker's walk-off homer was the fourth in the last eight games of the tournament.

Kobe Bryant cocked his arm for a dunk on the way to scoring 15 points in a 113-63 U.S. win over Canada in the FIBA Americas Championship last Saturday in Las Vegas. With LeBron James (inset) scoring 21 points on Sunday, the U.S. beat Brazil 113-76 to finish 4-0 in round-robin play and advance to the quarterfinals of the Olympic qualifying event (page 52).

Lickety-split
Tyson Gay of the U.S. was the first to the wire in the 100 meters at the world track and field championships on Sunday in Osaka, Japan, outrunning Derrick Atkins of the Bahamas (center) and Asafa Powell of Jamaica in 9.85 seconds. In the women's 100, Veronica Campbell of Jamaica (inset) finished with the same time, 11.01, as Lauryn Williams of the U.S. Judges needed five minutes to determine the winner: Campbell (page 50).
