HARRISBURG, PA. > Track and Field

Whiting, a freshman at Arizona State, won the gold medal and set a meet record in the discus and took a second gold medal in the shot put at the Pan American Junior Athletics Championships in Windsor, Ont. He won the same events at the Golden West Invitational in Folsom, Calif., in June.

LOUISVILLE > Volleyball

Christina, a senior at Assumption High, led her Kentucky club team, KIVA, to championships at the AAU (17 and under) junior national volleyball tournament and the USA (17 open division) Junior Olympic tournament. The outside hitter was named MVP at both events.

Adam Hicks

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. > Football

Hicks, a kicker for the Sioux Falls Storm of the United Indoor Football League, kicked a 35-yard field goal with three seconds left to give his team a 40--38 win over the Sioux City Bandits in the inaugural UIF Bowl in Sioux City, Iowa. He was voted MVP of the championship game.
