Will the real Cowboys please stand up? They beat the best team on their schedule, Philadelphia, by 23. Their three other wins came by four, three and three points, their losses by three, six and one.... Josh McCown has just about everything a young passer could want: a strong arm, a bad team ( Arizona) with an opening at quarterback, and a coach ( Dennis Green) who's not afraid to go with the hot hand over the veteran he brought in ( Kurt Warner). While Warner was out with a right-groin injury and the pressure was off, McCown threw for 783 yards in two games. But with Warner healthy again and eager to get his job back, McCown (above) is melting. On Sunday he missed two wide-open receivers in the end zone and threw for only 140 yards in a 20-10 win over the Titans. After the game, McCown was disappointed in his play--as were the Cardinals. Now McCown's a long shot to be the organization's quarterback of the future.... More trouble in Minnesota, even after a rousing 23-20 win over the Packers. Vikings coach Mike Tice was told that vice president of football operations Rob Brzezinski, among others, had questioned Tice's decision not to use his last timeout when the Green Bay offense was trying to run time off the clock near the end of the game, ultimately costing the Vikings about 35 seconds on their final drive. "Vice presidents should vice-president," Tice said, "and not second-guess what I'm doing on the field."
