What is your favorite childhood memory of the World Series?
Kirk Gibson hitting the home run off Dennis Eckersley [to win Game 1 in 1988]. I wasn't a closer when I was growing up [in Englewood, Colo.]. I was an outfielder and a Dodgers fan.

Your most embarrassing moment?
At Yankee Stadium they were playing God Bless America in the seventh inning, and I didn't realize. I had my head down, my hat over my eyes, as I sprinted in from the bullpen. I got to the mound when the song was three quarters over. I was ready to step back and pitch to [catcher] Brad Ausmus; he just pointed behind me. I was like, My goodness, what have I done?

If I weren't in baseball I'd be ...
teaching world history, or else I'd be an archeologist. Watching Indiana Jones movies growing up, it always seemed like a fun thing to do.
