Who's Hot
Cornrows
Big Ben Wallace's hair isn't so big any more, but there's reason to fear the
'row: He's averaging 20.7 boards in his last three games (including 27 against
the Bucks), and his Bulls won 11 of 12. "I'd love to have him on my
team," gushed Milwaukee's Ruben Patterson.
Parker
A week after setting a team record with 223 yards against the Browns,
Pittsburgh's Willie Parker had 132 in a win over Carolina on Sunday for the
suddenly resurgent Steelers, who have won three in a row to creep back into
wild-card contention.
Shockers' Wins
There have been a lot of big W's at Wichita State. Behind P.J. Couisnard's 21
points, the Shockers beat Maryland--Eastern Shore 102--46 (the third-largest
margin of victory in school history) to run their record to 8--0. They are one
of just six undefeated teams left.
Suns
Steve Nash admitted he was sluggish, but Phoenix matched its franchise record
of 14 wins in a row by beating the Kings last Saturday. "Guys are
unselfish, move the ball and we just find different guys at different times to
step up," said coach Mike D'Antoni.
Who's Not
Coach Coif
Slick Rick Pitino is off to his worst start at Louisville after a 61--49 loss
to rival Kentucky. The problem for the 5--4 Cards, according to freshman guard
Edgar Sosa, "We shoot it well in practice. But we have to do it when the
lights are on."
Brothers
Last Thursday, Joel and Henrik Lundqvist became the third set of twins to face
each other in an NHL game. (Goalie Henrik's Rangers beat center Joel's Stars.)
The next day Joel was shipped to the minors, and in his next start, against
Toronto, Henrik gave up a career-high eight goals before being yanked.
Shocking Ties
Pucker up, sis: Two of Georgia's five high school state championship games
ended in draws. Said Peachtree Ridge QB Zach Graham, who led a fourth-quarter
rally to tie Roswell 14--14, "We don't know if we should be happy or sad.
We would love to just finish the game."
Panthers
They're bad on ice—Florida has lost four of five—but worse on the gridiron.
Preseason Super Bowl hopeful Carolina has dropped four in a row to all but fall
out of playoff contention. "It's embarrassing," said WR Keyshawn
Johnson.
