Kelly Murphy JOLIET, ILL. > Volleyball Kelly, a senior outside hitter at Joliet Catholic Academy, is Gatorade's national volleyball player of the year. She had 414 kills, 303 assists, 121 digs, 55 aces and 32 blocks for the Angels. She plays for the U.S. junior national team, and her Sports Performance volleyball club team has won two straight national titles.

David Clifton
LONDON, ENGLAND > Soccer
Clifton, a graduate student at Franklin Pierce, scored a Division II tournament record nine goals, including two hat tricks, while leading the Ravens to their first national championship. The Northeast 10 player of the year and a second-team All-America, he ranked second nationally in goals with 25 in 19 games.

George Ezell
GARY, IND. > Football
George, a junior running back at Calumet High, blocked five extra points in one game, a 53--26 loss to Whiting. This season he ran 122 times for 1,210 yards, scored 22 touchdowns (19 rushing, three receiving) and was honorable mention all-state.

Kasha Kolb
CHELSEA, OKLA. > Softball
Kasha, a senior at Chelsea High, holds four national high school pitching records—career no-hitters (54), career perfect games (23), season shutouts (40) and season perfect games (13)—and is tied for two more, season no-hitters (21) and season ERA (0.00 in 277 innings). She led the Dragons to their first Class 3A title.

Tamar Gruwell
FAIRFIELD, CALIF. > Basketball
Gruwell, a sophomore guard at Sierra, hit 12 three-pointers (on 15 attempts) and finished with 45 points in the Wolverines' 80--60 victory over Modesto in the first round of the Shasta Invitational. She was named all-state last year by the California Community College Women's Basketball Coaches Association.

Catherine and Max Holman
TUPELO, MISS. > Cross-country
Siblings Catherine, a freshman, and Max, a sophomore, led Tupelo High to its seventh straight boys' and girls' Class 5A cross-country championships. Max won his 5K race in 15:57.34; Catherine finished second in the girls' 4K race.
