The versatile Cannon (20) led LSU to its first national championship, in 1958—passing for the game's only score—and is its only Heisman winner. His most memorable play was an 89-yard punt return against Ole Miss in '59 that give the Tigers a 7-3 comeback victory.

At 6'4" and 295 pounds, with a huge wingspan, Spears was recruited as a tight end but had developed into an All-SEC defensive end by '03, a season in which he had 49 tackles and six sacks. In the Sugar Bowl against Oklahoma he added an interception to seal the BCS national championship.
