YZERMAN'S MILESTONES
JUNE 8, 1983 The Red Wings make Yzerman, an 18-year-old center from the Peterborough Petes, the fourth overall pick in the entry draft behind Brian Lawton, Sylvain Turgeon and Pat LaFontaine.
OCT. 5, 1983 Yzerman scores his first career goal in his professional debut, against Winnipeg netminder Doug Soetaert.
JAN. 31, 1984 He becomes the youngest player in NHL history selected to play in an All-Star Game.
OCT. 7, 1986 Yzerman is named captain by new Detroit coach Jacques Demers. At 21 he is the youngest in franchise history.
APRIL 2, 1989 Yzerman finishes the season with career highs in goals (65), assists (90) and points (155).
MAY 24, 1989 He wins the Lester B. Pearson Award, presented by the NHLPA to the NHL's most outstanding player.
JUNE 10, 1989 Yzerman marries Lisa Brennan at St. Patrick's Church in Ottawa. The couple honeymoons in Italy for two weeks.
JUNE 15, 1993 Scotty Bowman is hired as Detroit's coach.
FEB. 24, 1993 Yzerman's assist on a goal against Buffalo makes him only the third player in franchise history (Gordie Howe and Alex Delvecchio are the others) to reach 1,000 career points.
