alumni of Notre Dame. The other graduates to pilot the program were Hunk
Anderson, Terry Brennan, Hugh Devore, Joe Kuharich, Elmer Layden and Frank
YEARS (1920-1978) that George Gipp held the school rushing record. The
legendary Gipp led the Irish in rushing and receiving from 1918 through 1920.
For his career Gipp ran for 2,341 yards while passing for another 1,769. Jerome
Heavens broke the rushing record in 1978.
