A half-mile banked oval set amid the cornfields of western Ohio, Eldora Speedway has been hosting Saturday-night races since 1954. In November 2004 the track's biggest fan purchased the venue from its original owner, Earl Baltes. "I'd honestly rather be racing at Eldora than at the Daytona 500, the Indy 500 or any other big event," says new owner Tony Stewart. "Saturday night under the lights--it's simple, it's raw, and man, it's awesome."

Fast Fun

WHAT MAKES Eldora so special? In a word, speed. On the banked turns, drivers can stay on the throttle all around the track, hitting 130 mph. This produces spectacular racing--and even more spectacular crashes. "You go so fast in such a small space that you have to be ready for anything," says Kasey Kahne. "That's why I love racing at Eldora."
