The German-born Anne Menke was able to cross two items off her to-do list in the same week: shoot for the Swimsuit Issue and go snowboarding. While photographing Bridget Hall on a board in Chile, she gave it a go. "I'll try anything," she says. Though she enjoyed it, she says her favorite leisure sport remains surfing because "I'm more of a beach bunny."
He knows hair--his non-SI clients include Lindsay Lohan and Sheryl Crow--but Peter Butler would be nowhere if he couldn't be charming at 5 a.m. That's usually when he's primping models for sunrise shoots. He's doing something right, because his brushwork has been on four consecutive Swimsuit covers, from 2002 to '05.
His black book is one that even Colin Farrell would covet. For the past three years Richard Deitsch has racked up massive long-distance charges to interview all the Swimsuit models for their bios. "And I'm sure Marisa Miller is bragging to her friends that she has my number," he says. This year he also wrote the copy for the Swimsuit model trading cards.

"This photo. No, wait, that one." Such phrases, uttered endlessly by SI editors, send Jodi Napolitani, who manages production of the Swimsuit Issue, back to her drawing board again and again. "We have to be critical, so we switch pictures a lot," says the seven-year SI veteran. "I'm just glad I don't have to be wearing a bathing suit when I do it."
