Lem, 63, a 181-pound engineer, set a national masters record as the first man over 60 to squat more than 600 pounds. At the U.S. Powerlifting Federation National Masters Championships he accounted for 601.

Rosine Marschke
CRETE, ILL.
Rosine, a senior at Crete-Monee High, won the state girls' bowling title by knocking down a 12-game total of 2,362 pins to beat Brenda Edwards of Rich Central High by 91 pins. Rosine's three-game-series high was 663.

Amanda White
COCKEYSVILLE, MD.
Amanda, a sophomore at Dulaney High, won the girls' 4A state crosscountry championship by running the three-mile course at Hereford in 18:43. She finished 2:08 ahead of Jennifer Novak of Frederick High.

Kevin Kullum
ST. LOUIS
Kevin, a 6'5" junior forward for Brentwood High, scored 52 points in a 108-68 win over Crystal City High and then 56 in a 114-77 defeat of North County Tech. In 26 games this year he averaged 28.6 points and 11 rebounds.

Geno Thompson
ARAGON, GA.
Geno, a 135-pound junior wrestler at Rockmart High, won his second straight Class 2A state title when he beat Kembrick Walters of East Laurens High on a 2-0 decision. Geno has had a 65-5 record over the past three years.

Kristen Briggs
YORK, MAINE
Kristen, a junior striker for the York High girls' soccer team, was named All-State and All-America after making 26 goals and 13 assists for the 18-0 Wildcats. She has had 81 goals and 31 assists in her three varsity seasons.
