THE WILDCATS COME IN LOUD AND CLEAR

Bobby Knight, the
noted basketball coach and media critic, made his debut as a broadcaster last
March at the NCAA finals in Salt Lake City. He was the color man on the radio
network that carried the saga of Magic Johnson and Larry Bird to the listeners
of 240 stations in 50 states. After it was over. Knight did something he rarely
does—he heaped praise on a member of the media. Asked about his partner,
play-by-play announcer Cawood Ledford, the Indiana coach said, "He was
superb to work with.... I think he's one of the greatest basketball announcers
in the country."
"He's very
analytical, and he did a super job," Ledford says. "Bobby came
prepared, with notes, interviews with the coaches, everything. All most jocks
bring with them is their lunch. I think he's got a future in this business if
he wants one."
