William F. Reed
February 18, 1980
Bobby Knight, the noted basketball coach and media critic, made his debut as a broadcaster last March at the NCAA finals in Salt Lake City. He was the color man on the radio network that carried the saga of Magic Johnson and Larry Bird to the listeners of 240 stations in 50 states. After it was over. Knight did something he rarely does—he heaped praise on a member of the media. Asked about his partner, play-by-play announcer Cawood Ledford, the Indiana coach said, "He was superb to work with.... I think he's one of the greatest basketball announcers in the country."
