SEAN KNOCHESIESTA KEY, FLA. Sean, 11, a third baseman and pitcher, led the Siesta Key Little League with a record .658 batting average. He hit safely in all 14 games, going 12 for 12 in the last three. He pitched the maximum three innings in every game and was named league MVP.

LISA RAYMOND
VALLEY FORGE, PA.
Lisa, 10, won her fifth consecutive 10-and-under Middle States section tennis tournament, losing only 11 of 179 games. At the Indian Springs (Pa.) Open, Lisa won her third consecutive 12-and-under championship in straight sets.

MEMPHIS
Carpenter, a Memphis State freshman, set a state record while winning the Tennessee high school decathlon championships. Competing for Wooddale High, Carpenter had 8,515 points, 45 more than second-place finisher Brooks Corzine.

NEPHI JUDD
ST. DAVID, ARIZ.
Judd, 18, won the 198-pound division at the National Junior Weightlifting Olympics by lifting 259 pounds and hoisting 330� in the clean and jerk for a 589�-pound total. Earlier he won state titles in wrestling, the shotput and the discus.

LAWRENCE SMITH
FORT SMITH, ARK.
Smith, 57, retired in August after winning his 28th district title in 33 years as head coach of the Kerwins Sporting Goods American Legion baseball team. Smith never had a losing season while achieving an .838 career winning percentage.

NANCY HARRIS
ROSEAU, MINN.
Harris, 21, beat Julie Gumlia on the third hole of sudden-death for the Minnesota women's state amateur medal play title. In the second round Harris set a women's course record at Midland Hills Country Club with a three-under-par 71.
