Snow, a freshman at Eastern Kentucky, won the young women's (ages 17-18) 10-km road race at the TAC National Junior Olympics in Baton Rouge with a time of 35:30. She defeated Leslie Walls of neighboring Biddeford, Maine by 1:08.
Jimmy, 10, a center-forward, paced the Hurricanes to an 18-1-1 record and both the 1984 fall and spring championships in the Lowell Youth Soccer League. He had 50 goals over the two seasons to lead the Hurricanes in scoring.
DEAL ISLAND, MD.
Webster, 87, a retired oyster fisherman, piloted his 50-foot skipjack H.M. Krentz to third place in the 25th annual Labor Day skipjack race on Tangier Sound in Chesapeake Bay. He came in half a length ahead of his 42-year-old son, Dickie.
Darnell, 36, a registered nurse, and her daughter, Julie, 15, a sophomore at Sacred Heart Academy, defeated Cathy and Julie Sanford, 52 and 16, respectively, of Goleta, Calif. 7-5, 4-6, 6-4 to win the mother-daughter championship at the 10th Equitable Family Tennis Challenge in Flushing, N.Y. The Abells won four matches at a local tournament in Louisville, four more at the sectionals in Dayton and then the final four rounds at the National Tennis Center in New York.
