Cooper, a senior at Northeast Louisiana University, shot a four-under-par 284 to win the National Lefthanders' Golf Championship in Palm Springs, Calif. by two strokes over three-time titlist Bob Michael of Sarasota, Fla.

IRVINE, CALIF.
Scott, 53, an office manager for a jewelry firm, set a women's world record by catching a 454-pound giant sea bass on 50-pound-test off Catalina Island, Calif. The catch took her almost 3� hours and broke the old mark by 33 pounds.

MALCOLM PITTMAN
BALTIMORE
Pittman, a 5'10", 175-pound senior tailback for McDonogh High, has gained 1,034 yards on 94 carries and scored 14 touchdowns in seven games. In a 33-12 victory over Bishop Walsh, he rushed for 322 yards and had four TDs.

STEVE ELLIOTT
AMARILLO, TEXAS
Elliott, a junior at Nebraska and a five-time U.S. tumbling champ, placed second at the World Tumbling Championships. He has won two Big Eight diving titles and was floor-exercise champ at the 1980 NCAA gymnastics meet.

CAROL WIGLEY
CAMARILLO, CALIF.
Wigley, 18, won 10 medals in four sports at the National Explorer Olympics in Fort Collins, Colo., more than any of the 1,458 other competitors. Among her seven golds were medals in the 100-meter backstroke and the 200 IM.

ANTHONY PATT
HARVARD, MASS.
Anthony, 15, won the Junior Boys' International Tetrathlon Championship in Kent, Conn. He earned 4,004 points in show jumping, shooting, swimming and crosscountry running to finish 28 points ahead of Luke O'Grady of Canada.
