Stafford, a 43-year-old hospital supplies manager, defeated Bill Rubin of White Plains, N.Y. 9-15, 13-15, 16-14, 15-8 and 15-10 to win the 65th national squash tennis tournament in New York City. It was Stafford's first such championship.
Natalie, who is a 6-foot, 170-pound sophomore at Fullerton Union High, put the 8.8-pound shot 50'1�" to surpass the girls' national high school interscholastic record of 50'1�" established a year ago by Elaine Sobansky of Washington, Pa.

Kent, a senior at Washington High, won his fourth consecutive state diving title. His point total in an earlier meet was 590.85 for 11 dives, an all-time Iowa best. He was unbeaten in high school competition during his last three seasons.
Marx, 23, a fencer at Portland State, beat Greg Massialas of San Jose State 10-6 in Portland to win the men's foil title of the North American Cup series. He also won the first two events of the series in New York City and San Jose.
Stacey, 18, a 6-foot forward at Susquehanna Township High, finished her basketball career with 2,281 points and 2,525 rebounds in 132 games, for averages of 17.3 and 19.1, respectively. The Ladies were 127-5 with her in the lineup.
Fuentes, a senior center-fielder at Florida State, hit the 56th home run of his college career in the Seminoles' 7-0 victory over Jacksonville to tie the NCAA record held since 1978 by Bob Horner, now of the Atlanta Braves.
