McManus defends the ATP's rankings as being "based on simplicity" and adds, "It's a lot like a baseball average: At year's end, you don't know if a guy hit the homers in April or August. McManus' conciliatory tone sounds suspiciously like an admission that the ATP may have erred in leaving the computer court wide open. The WCT's volley looks like a winner.
