Brad, a sophomore-to-be at West Orange High, won the intermediate-division long jump at the state AAU Junior Olympics (23'3�"), becoming the first New Jersey ninth-grader to surpass 23 feet. He also won the triple jump (42'11").

Palmer, a junior-to-be at Brown, successfully defended the four individual swimming titles she had won as a freshman at the Ivy League championships: the 500-yard free (4:57), 200 back (2:02.5) and the 100 and 400 IMs (1:17.0, 4:36.4).

WISE, VA.
Doug, 18, a lefthander at J.J. Kelly High, led the Indians to their second successive Group A baseball title with a 10-1 record and 148 strikeouts in 72 innings. He has a three-year record of 27-1, with five no-hitters and an ERA of 0.63.

GRANDFATHER MOUNTAIN, N.C.
Smith, 36, outflew an international field of 36 to win the Rogallo Trophy at the American Cup hang gliding championships in Yorkshire Dales National Park, England. His longest flight in the open-distance competition was 22 miles.

Miguel, 24, a phys ed student at the University of Nevada-Reno, finished almost 22 seconds ahead of his 32-year-old brother, Domingo, a Nevada-Reno graduate student and assistant track coach, to win the San Francisco Marathon in a record 2:14:31.7. It was the first time Miguel had beaten Domingo, a three-time Olympian who was 17th in the marathon in Moscow in 1980, in a road race. The brothers had finished 1-4, in order of descending age, in San Francisco's Bridge-to-Bridge race last October.
