McKinzie, 92, is an assistant football coach at Eureka College, where he served as head coach from 1921 to '36. In his many years of coaching, McKinzie's most famous player was Ronald Reagan, a guard with Eureka from 1929 to '31.
Bailey, who is a 5'9" 180-pound freshman running back for Texas A & I, broke the NCAA Division II single-season rushing mark with 2,010 yards, surpassing the record of 1,775 set by Jim Holder of Panhandle State ( Okla.) in 1963.
Barretta, a senior quarterback at Lycoming College in Williamsport, Pa., threw for six TDs and rushed for two in a 63-27 upset of Juniata Nov. 1. He completed his college career with 81 touchdowns, tying the NCAA Division III record.
Cheri, a senior on the Ridgefield High volleyball team, led the Spudders to their 153rd consecutive league victory (dating back to 1972) and their 15th league title. She had a team-high 94.8 serving percentage and 179 serving points.
At the state swimming meet, Heidi, 17, a member of the Carmel High team, set a national girls' mark of 56.66 in the 100-yard backstroke, breaking the record of 56.69 held by Debbie Risen of Shawnee Mission, Kans. Heidi also led her Greyhounds' 200-medley relay team to a state record of 1:47.04. Janel, 15, broke state marks in the 200-yard freestyle (1:50.36) and 100-yard butterfly (55.17), taking more than two full seconds off the old 'fly record held by Paula Beohme of New Canaan, Conn.
