The only player to score at least 50 in nine straight seasons, Bossy, who reached 50 in 50 games in 1980--81, led the Islanders to four straight Stanley Cups in the '80s. |

WAYNE GRETZKY

|
The year of his NHL-record 92, the Great One got his 60th in Edmonton's 49th game, six days shy of his 21st birthday; he's still the youngest, and the quickest, to 60. |
|
PHIL ESPOSITO
|
4 |

717 |
|
The first player to score 70 in a season, Esposito was a two-time Cup winner in Boston. His 61 goals at age 33 in 1974--75 make him the oldest to reach the mark. |

MARIO LEMIEUX

Six seasons passed between Mario's first 60-goal season and his last, which came in 1995--96. He and then Penguins teammate Jaromir Jagr (62) were the last to get 60. |

BRETT HULL

The NHL's No. 3 alltime goal scorer had three straight seasons of 60-plus (70-plus, actually) with the Blues. His 86 in the middle year is the record for a non-Gretzky. |

PAVEL BURE

60 ('92--93; '93--94) |
437 |
|
The 1991--92 Calder Trophy winner hit the mark in his second and third NHL seasons, with Vancouver. His 59 as a Panther in 2000--01 is the post-'95--96 standard. |
|
JARI KURRI
|

Second to Jagr among European-born goal scorers, the Finnish-born Kurri skated next to Gretzky as an Oiler. In 1984--85 Gretzky assisted on 56 of Kurri's goals. |

Despite ranking eighth in career goal scoring, the Captain never led the league in goals during a 22-season Red Wings tenure in which he won three Stanley Cups. |
WITH 57 goals through Sunday, Alexander Ovechkin was close to joining the 17 players who have scored 60 or more in a season. None have done it in the last 12 years, and only eight (including Mario Lemieux, right) have hit that magic number more than once—a club that the Capitals' electric winger, still only 22, seems likely to join.
