Best runs feature trail skiing, four open slopes?all packed snow.

Ski equipment available for rent in shop area. Cost per day for boots, poles, skis: $4.

After skiing entertainment limited: ice skating, swimming in heated outdoor pool, organized games, movies.

Eriksen, Olympic and world champion just turned pro, heads ski school that teaches Arlberg to four class levels at a $3 per hour rate for groups, $8 per hour for private instruction.

FRANCONIA, N.H.

Transportation by plane to Lebanon, N.H., then taxi 70 miles to Franconia; or trains to Littleton, N.H., then taxi eight miles. Car is best. Bring chains.

Best season Feb. 20 to March 20, with snow from Dec. 15 to April 1.

Package deals do not exist at Franconia. Many lodges in town offer special five-day (Monday-to-Friday) rate of $50-65. Write Franconia Ski Association for full housing information.

Uphill facilities include 5,460-foot aerial tram, three T bars totaling 6,800 feet.
