Ski equipment available for rent at Mt. Baker Lodge. Cost per day for boots, poles, skis: $2.

After ski entertainment almost non-existent. Lodge has movies, informal singing. Nearest bar is at Glacier, 20 miles away.

DAVE RANKINS
Rankins teaches Swiss technique to classes arranged informally for every level of ability, charges $1.50 per hour for lessons to various groups, and $3 per hour for private instruction.

SQUAW VALLEY, CAL.

Transportation by car 200 miles from San Francisco or 110 miles from Sacramento. Bus from Reno 30 miles to Truckee, then taxi 15 miles to mountain.

Best season Feb. 21 to March 20, with snow from Nov. 24 to May 30.

Package deal at Squaw Valley Lodge offers six days' room, board (without lunch), five days' lifts, lessons, $79-$113. Half dozen other inns at mountain catch weekend overflow from Lodge. Some housing at Truckee, but car needed.

Uphill facilities include 8,200-foot and 900-foot double chairs.

Best runs feature powder and corn, open terrain. Distance from top varies 2? to 5 miles, depending which trail you pick.

Ski equipment available for rent at Squaw Valley Sporthaus. Cost per day for boots, poles, skis: $5.
