The fox is a vagabond and a thief. Unlike those who hunt him, he is not a sportsman, but is a mean, cunning killer who pounces upon his prey by stealth. The more a fox is hunted the more he learns and the harder he is to catch. In off hunting months the fox enjoys a happy, larcenous life of theft and laziness. When February comes around Mr. Fox goes courting and will travel miles in search of a vixen who will bear him the craftiest little children that ever lived. A vixen has only one litter of cubs a year. It is a strange but true fact that many fox cubs are born on or around April 1 and this April Fool's birthday seems to have a great deal to do with the fooling proclivities of the fox family.
