'JUDGING AN ATHLETE'
Roger Bannister
June 27, 1955
"It is still much more reliable to judge an
athlete from seeing him run or jump than it is to test his potentialities in a
laboratory. If a laboratory forecast were possible there would be hardly any
point in an athlete's proving his ability, and he would never experience the
satisfaction of struggle and achievement. I hope the frightening day will never
come when the scientist can predict with accuracy the limits of an athlete's
success."
