THE WINDWARD SEASIDE
I just finished reading your swimsuit issue (Down by the Seaside, Feb. 12), and as usual, I was impressed. The models, the swimsuits and the scenery were all spectacular. What was truly mesmerizing, though, was your gorgeous cover model, Judit Masco.

Forget Tyson vs. Douglas. The most beautiful knockout of 1990 is Rachel Hunter. Her "peachy-keen" pose on Argyle Beach packs a powerful punch.

Elle Macpherson and Kathy Ireland sunbathing in the same pool! How much can a mortal man take?

Enough Montana and Magic. More Macpherson and Masco!

I wish to express my gratitude to the feminists who protested your swimsuit issue at the main newsstand in Harvard Square. They drew my attention to your magnificent magazine celebrating the wonders of the female body. Long live Gloria Steinem and Elle Macpherson.

I have been told that Ireland is beautiful at this time of the year. After seeing Kathy again in this year's swimsuit issue, I wholeheartedly agree.

Is chivalry dead? Wasn't there a gentleman present to help Kathy Ireland brush the sand from her posterior (FROM THE PUBLISHER)?

A sense of decency demands that I voice my indignation. I turn to SI each week because I am a sports buff, not because I wish to see sports figures in the buff. I refer, of course, to that photograph of a nearly naked Jim Palmer in an advertisement for men's underwear. This kind of near obscenity has no place in your magazine. The rest of your Feb. 12 issue, however, was very nice indeed.

Congratulations on featuring beautiful black women in your swimsuit issue.

It is obvious that SI will never stop publishing its best-selling issue. If you must become a fashion magazine once a year, could you put those bathing suits on athletes? In an age when physical educators are trying to encourage girls to participate in athletics, we must all work to end old stereotypes.
