Lena S. Mashburn ANCHORAGE, ALASKA Lena, 12, won the 12-and-under slalom and came in second in the giant slalom at the state Alpine ski championships. Her times of 1:50.51 and 1:43.46 were faster than the best respective boys' times (1:52.61 and 1:45.36).

Jones, 29, a correctional officer, won five gold medals at the Southeast Regional Police Games. Jones's firsts were in the long jump, the high jump, the sprint medley and the 4 x 100-meter and 4 x 1,600-meter relays.

Downey, 61, an advertising executive and 13 handicapper, and Gallagher, 65, an advertising executive with a 22 handicap, shot holes in one on consecutive drives on the 170-yard par-3 6th hole at Oakmont Country Club. Downey nailed his ace with a four-iron, while Gallagher, his playing companion for 20 years, used a five-wood. It was the first time either had ever made a hole in one, and the first time players had consecutive aces at Oakmont.

Candice, a senior pitcher for the Barbe High softball team, had a 119-3 record, 50 no-hitters and an ERA of 0.12 during her four varsity seasons. She had streaks of 107 consecutive wins and of 393? scoreless innings.

Naomi E. Peters
EL CERRITO, CALIF.
Naomi, 17, won the girls' 158-pound national high school title in judo for the second year in a row, defeating Alicia Nishioka of Los Angeles. She also won the U.S. Senior National Judo title in the same division.
