Mayo, 74, a retired businessman, won the 75-and-over (he was allowed to play in this age group because he will turn 75 in 1991) world handball title by defeating Larry Kotal, 78, of New Port Richey, Fla., 21-15 and 21-18.

ALLENTOWN, PA.
Seip, 33, the swimming coach at Emmaus High, guided his boys' and girls' teams to 13-0 and 14-0 marks, respectively, for the season. His record for his nine-year career at Emmaus is 75-1 (boys) and 103-0 (girls).

Denise Tanguay
CUMBERLAND, MALNE
Tanguay, 25, a pest-control inspector, placed first in the women's 100-, 200-and 400-meter races at the North American Snowshoe Classic. Tanguay, who has won 11 races this year, has lost only once since 1982.

Larry Davis

Larry, a senior basketball guard for Denmark-Olar High, set a state single-season scoring record when he got 30 points in a 76-61 defeat of Great Falls High. His season total was 1,162, 83 more than the old mark.

Margaret Day Gates
MOBILE, ALA.
Margaret Day, an eighth-grader competing in the high school girls' division of the state indoor track and field championships, won the long jump (16'2 "), the 60-yard dash (7.50) and the 60-yard high hurdles (9.22).

Megan Gerety
SUN VALLEY, IDAHO
Gerety, 19, won the women's downhill at the U.S. Alpine Skiing Championships by covering the 1�-mile Crested Butte downhill course in 1:26.76, .29 of a second faster than Julie Parisien of Auburn, Maine.
