Nolan Ryan
RANGERS PRESIDENT
The Ryan Express, at age 61, hasn't lost much off his 100-mph fastball.
Dan Patrick: How
hard can you throw now?
Nolan Ryan: Last
summer I was in Japan, and they asked me to throw out a first pitch, and they
wanted me to throw hard. I threw to Bobby Valentine, and they had me on the gun
at 85.
DP: Do you think
you could throw 90 if I gave you two months to get ready?
NR: I probably
could. There's nothing wrong with my arm; it's my joints that bother me.
DP: You could
give me two innings, couldn't you?
NR: [Laughs.]
They'd have to swing at the first pitch.
DP: Is your
opinion on Roger Clemens different now from five years ago?
NR: No. It's just
a shame that Roger has gotten caught up in this situation and that he took the
position that he did, and that so many things have come out that have really
cast a bad light on his career. If you look at some of the other players that
stepped up and said, "Hey, I did it, and I knew it was wrong," and
asked for forgiveness, they've gone on about their business.
DP: Did you ever
have a pitch count?
