Scary Good
With intensity
written all over his face, Great Britain's Andy Murray prepared to pound a
serve at Austria's Jrgen Melzer in their third-round match last Saturday at
the U.S. Open (page 68). The sixth-seeded Murray needed three hours and 52
minutes to beat back the challenger 6--7, 4--6, 7--6, 6--1, 6--4 in Flushing
Meadows, N.Y.
Unanimous
Decision
Catcher Chris
Iannetta, pitcher Livan Hernandez and ump Rob Drake all punched out the Giants'
Dave Roberts after the throw by Rockies centerfielder Willy Taveras beat the
base runner to the plate. Though Roberts failed to score on the fly ball, San
Francisco still won the game, 4--1, on Aug. 27 at AT&T Park.

Thanks to his
jersey's tearaway fabric, Hawaii's Ryan Mouton escaped the grasp of Florida's
Jeff Demps and picked up extra yardage on a kickoff return last Saturday in
Gainesville. In the end, it was the Gators who ripped apart the Warriors 56--10
in the opening week of the college season (page 28).
