THE DOPE: The Ephmen had the best freshman squad in their history last season, and 26 of them join the varsity this year as sophomores. Coach Leonard Watters is high on the potential of this fine football harvest but somewhat concerned over its lack of experience. "If our sophomores progress we'll be stronger than 1955," he explains, "and they should progress as experience is gained." The backbone of the Ephmen attack will be Fullback Joel Potter, a powerful-running junior who led the Williams attack last year. With Center Karl Schoeller and End Skip Martin as the mainstays, Williams expects to field the kind of line that will give little on the ground and open up plenty of holes for its own runners. That leaves the passing as the No. 1 problem for Coach Watters. If he can solve it with sophomore Quarterback Gary Higgins, Williams will be a threat to lift the Little Three crown from Wesleyan. However, last year's fabulous freshmen may require more time to jell than an eight-game schedule affords. They could be a year away.
