Now the Aces will await a playoff match later in the year against the winner of the Vanderbilt—the Walsh team—to decide who will represent North America in 1970 in Stockholm. With Italy's Blue Team retired, North America will have its best chance in more than a decade to win the World Championship.
Whether the Aces win or lose in the playoff, our nonplaying captain, Oswald Jacoby—James Jacoby's father—will have a family-style headache. If the Aces lose, Captain Jacoby will have to decide which pair from among the losers he will add to the four-man Walsh team to complete his squad for Stockholm. If the Aces win, the captain will have to decide whether to replace one pair of the winners with a pair from the losers, which he has a right to do. Finally, if the Aces win and he keeps the team intact, he must choose when and against whom his son will play.
