Nic Crider, Oak Ridge, Tenn.
Crider, a senior at Tennessee-Chattanooga, won the NCAA South region individual title and, for the third straight year, the Southern Conference crown. He went undefeated in six meets and led the Mocs to the South region team championship.
Char Sharp, Archbold, Ohio
Sharp, 56, coach at Archbold High for 24 years, has been named state Division III coach of the year for the last three years. She has a 573-67 record, including four unbeaten seasons, and has won 15 Northwest Ohio Athletic League championships, 12 regional crowns and three state titles.
Harry Jackson, Lancaster, Pa.
Jackson, a senior at Navy, set a 207-pound-class bench-press world record of 308.6 pounds in the 20-23 age group. He also holds records for collegiate Olympic lifting in snatch (237.0 pounds), clean and jerk (286.7), and combined total (523.7).
Tara Bennett, Hopkins, Mich.
Tara, 15, a deputy black belt, won gold medals as a brown belt in the girls' 14-15 age group in the sparring and forms competitions at the state tournament. She also came in first place at the Junior Olympics as a brown belt in both events.
Greg Sarkis, Honeoye Falls, N. Y.
Sarkis, 38, won the New York State masters slalom and giant slalom events in the 35-39 age group. He was named Ski Racing magazine's Masters Alpine Skier of the Year for 1998 after winning the national title in his division for the second straight year.
Shilpa Joshi, Palos Verdes Estates, Calif.
Shilpa, a freshman at Peninsula High, led the Panthers to their seventh California Interscholastic Federation Division I Southern Section title in eight years with a 10-8 defeat of Woodbridge High. She beat sophomore Susanna Lingman 6-3 to clinch the crown.
