Penguins forward Stu Barnes, an erstwhile 30-goal scorer who had 15 goals through Sunday, is being shopped around. Don't be surprised if he ends up with the Blackhawks....

Stat of the week: In 35 games with Carolina this season, forward Nelson Emerson took 84 shots. Since being traded to the Blackhawks on Dec. 29, he'd played 11 games through Sunday and taken 40 shots. The difference? Emerson's new linemates Doug Gilmour and Tony Amonte know how to move the puck quickly....

Speaking of Amonte, he has a clause in his contract that calls for a $500,000 bonus if he scores 40 or more goals in a season. Moreover, that sum is added to his base salary for each of the three years left on the deal. With 24 goals, Amonte was well on his way to earning the bonus....

The most improved player in the league is Stars forward grant Marshall, a veteran who at week's end had eight goals, one less than his career high for a season. The reason? Nobody works harder in practice than Marshall, who, by the way, knows about comebacks: At 17, while playing for Ottawa in the Ontario Hockey League, he broke his neck. He was back before the end of the season.
