Gonzalez, a sophomore forward at Connecticut, had four goals at the Pan-Am Junior Championships, including one in the title game against Chile, forcing overtime and helping the U.S. win. A week later she scored the game-winner against then undefeated Syracuse. She was the Big East offensive player of the week.

LAKE MARY, FLA. > Football
Ray, an eighth-grade quarterback at Lake Mary Prep and son of the Baltimore Ravens linebacker, scored five touchdowns against Trinity Prep, a school record. He was the first player named to the Football University Youth All-American Bowl, which will feature top junior high players.

ST. AUGUSTINE, FLA. > Motocross
Ashley, a homeschooled junior, beat five-time champion Jessica Patterson to win the Women's Motocross Association Championship in her first year as a pro. Ashley, who is deaf, was nominated for sportswoman of the year by the Women's Sports Foundation.

Antonio Bautista
HOMEDALE, IDAHO > Soccer
Bautista, a junior midfielder at the College of Idaho, was named the Cascade Conference player of the year after leading the CC in goals (21) and the NAIA in game-winners (10). He was an NAIA offensive player of the week in October and is a candidate for All-America honors.

Kate Conklin
NEW YORK CITY > Triathlon
Conklin, a 33-year-old fitness instructor, completed the Foster Grant Ironman World Championship in Clearwater, Fla., despite having erythromelalgia, a nerve disorder that creates the sensation of burning in the extremities. Because it hurts her to wear sneakers, she did the cycling and running stages in sandals.

HAMILTON, ONT. > Ice Hockey
Ryan, a senior at St. Ann's High School and a defenseman for the Ontario Hockey League's Windsor Spitfires, is second in the league in scoring with 13 goals and 26 assists (1.65 points per game). Last season he had 63 points in 63 games and was OHL scholastic player of the year.
