A tip of the chapeau to France's Fabrice Santoro (right), who lost to Andy Roddick in the third round in Melbourne but played in his 66th Grand Slam tournament, an Open Era record.... What are the odds? By the third round of the Aussie Open, there were two Bondarenko sisters (Alona and Kateryna) left in the draw, but only one Williams sister, after Venus lost to Spain's Carla Surez Navarro.... Small consolation, perhaps, but there were 14 Americans in the 128-player men's doubles field, the most of any country.... Since winning the 2008 French Open and reaching the No. 1 ranking, Serbia's Ana Ivanovic has failed to reach the second week of a major; she lost in the third round in Melbourne to a little-known Russian, Alisa Kleybanova.
